Are you trying for unattainable goals that you aren't really passionate about? Do you quickly give up on your goals? It can be easy to get discouraged, but you don't have to end up there! With the right strategies, you can set goals that really matter to you and meet them more easily than you ever imagined.
It's important that you understand that your goals must be yours. The goals of your parents, family, friends or others are theirs. Most likely they are not the same as those you want to set for yourself.
Many people set goals around getting rich, writing a best-selling novel, or marrying someone who is rich and famous. If that's what you really want, that's fine. Do you want to be important and influential? That's okay, too. But if those dreams are based on society's creation - and not yours, banish them. Focus on what really matters most to you. Think about what you want from your life.
You can ask yourself, "What will make me happy or bring me joy and beauty?" No matter what you decide or how many goals you choose, you can make them happen if you are dedicated and committed to their outcome.
Once you have decided what matters most to you, set your goals around that. Take the time and put in some work around setting truly meaningful goals. Then you can watch with excitement and total satisfaction as they come into fruition.
Remain Flexible and open to change. Your goals are not etched in stone. If you feel you must change your focus and set a new goal, be open to doing so. That does not mean that you have given up on your goal. It simply means that you have identified a need to change it for whatever reason that's important to you. You may find that as you change, some of your goals will change also. Take that as a sign of growth and wisdom
Be sure and set realistic time-lines for reaching your goals. While some can be reached in a day or a week, larger goals often take months or years. The important thing is that you remain realistic about how long before you can expect to reach your goals.
Divide your goal into small steps. Another great way to reach your goals is to divide big goals into smaller ones. Each small goal is one step, or one task, on the way to achieving your ultimate goal. Set individual deadlines for these small steps. This way, you'll always be moving forward, one step at a time.
